Last Spring Break... EVER.

Thank you again for all of your support and emails. I appreciate all of your caring words, I'm saving the emails/comments for a scrapbook that I am making for my (eventual) veterinary career - a way to look back when things get tough and for me to know that I am making a difference out there, no matter how small. The winners of the raffle will be announced Friday and items will be sent out shortly after!

I heard this quote today that made me smile, "Pet owners want to know how much you care before they care how much you know." With my worries about not knowing enough when I graduate, I know that caring about my patients and clients won't be a problem. I may be short on relative clinical knowledge right out of school, but I will never be less than impressed with the strength of the human-animal bond and will do my part to strengthen that however possible.

I'm excited to "celebrate" spring break, but at the same time, I am excited to see the light at the end of tunnel, so to speak. Clinics are starting in exactly 1 month. Incredible! I never imagined the years would go by so quickly; the hundreds (thousands?) of hours spent studying seem so far away now - I'm so ready to get out there and make a career for myself - well, for ourselves really, KJ and I.

Speaking of spring break, KJ and I took engagement photos in Chicago yesterday. Our photograher is Amy Aiello, and she is incredibly artistic and talented - she has an amazing eye for great shots and made us look like rock stars. It was chilly and windy and my hair got a little crazy, but it was fun! Enjoy!

  1. Please understand that caring is truly what people seek (Knowledge is important too of course) in a vet. The ability to say "I don't know right now, but I want to find out for you" and to care enough to follow trough with that. That's what makes a real vet. I'm impressed this is important to you. Clearly the way you worked for Shy speaks volumes to your character.
The pics are fantastic. I hope someday I could take pics half as good as these with my own camera. You guys look great and really happy!

  2. I love the quote you posted ... and as a pet owner who has been to some really amazing vets and some really terrible ones, I think the quote is right on the money. You can have all the knowledge in the world, but if you don't really care about what you're doing, or are unable to convey that to the clients (both the pets and the people), it is doubtful that you'll be able to do much good.

On another note, congratulations on your coming marriage ... you and KJ look really happy and the photos are amazing!

  5. I love that you are so reflective and I wish you could be our vet out here. Those photos are amazing! How did you go everywhere without hordes of people getting into your shots?

  6. I like the quote you posted! I am a first year student at mississippi state vet school. I've been stressing A LOT about how in the world I am ever going to remember everything and know what to do once I start clinicals in two years! Its terrifying to me! I'm glad I found your blog. I'd love to know what its like starting clinicals.

  7. Thanks everyone, we're very happy with the pictures - the photographer rocks.

The reason there are no people in our shots is that it was a Tuesday and very chilly! I'm glad we don't look like we were shivering :)

  8. Great pics and post today. I have been with my vet for 25+ years and I dread the day he retires. I have such a bond with him and I trust him with my fur-kids and heart. If he retires and you are near by I may look you up.
